Four Winds Turning Point

Red Road to Recovery

Spiritual Caregiving

Cultural ServicesEddie Grijalva

At Compass Behavioral Health Care we believe that providing for the physical, psychological, cultural, and spiritual needs of our clients increases the chance that they will have successful treatment outcomes.  To create a more favorable environment for recovery we have created a holistic approach to treatment that addresses all of these areas of need.

Supportive services are available for individuals and their families who are monolingual Spanish speakers or Native Americans to facilitate successful treatment and provide smooth communication with family members. Compass employs bilingual therapists and staff, as well as Native American counselors, therapists, Recovery Support Specialists, and other staff.

Edward Grijalva, LISAC, Coordinator of Special Populations works with our "special population" clients from admission through discharge across all treatment programs.  He assists them in determining what is most important to their recovery process, serves as a liaison between the client and his/her family, between the client and the community and any involved tribal nations, and between the client and the funding organizations.  In addition, Eddie oversees cultural programs which implement traditional Native American beliefs and practices.

Cultural Perspectives meetings, which are open to people of all cultures, are held to educate clients about Native American history, their socio-economic issues, and to learn about navigating life in two cultures. Culturally appropriate cultural activities and Spanish-only groups are also available to support Hispanic clients.

Additional support comes by helping our clients to access some of their natural support systems (perhaps a medicine man or faith healer), and by educating our staff to value diversity and respect cultural and spiritual practices, enabling them to become culturally competent.
